Dr Abate Bashaw obtained his PhD in Immunology this year from the laboratory of Ian Frazer in Brisbane and started his position as a postdoc in the Melanoma Discovery Lab in April 2021. His thesis focused on understanding the immunology behind HPV. He published two papers [1, 2] in the respected Journal of Investigative Dermatology which described immune suppressive cells and cytokines in skin expressing HPV proteins. Abate has expert knowledge in cell culture, flow cytometry, mouse modeling, skin grafting techniques and molecular biology and is currently developing patient-derived xenograft models in Perth.
