The Perkins is seeking enthusiastic and engaging Community Education Demonstrators to join the Perkins BioDiscovery Centre. In this rewarding role, you will deliver interactive STEM and medical research education programs that inspire school students, teachers and the wider community. You’ll create memorable hands-on learning experiences, foster curiosity, and help connect participants with the world-leading research taking place at the Perkins. This position is offered on a casual basis and is located at our state-of-the-art medical research facilities in Nedlands.
About this role
Reporting to the Community Education Manager, the Community Education Demonstrator plays a key role in delivering engaging and interactive STEM and medical research education programs for school groups, teachers and the wider community. You will bring science to life by facilitating hands-on learning experiences, tailoring sessions to suit a range of audiences, and creating a positive, inclusive and memorable experience for every participant. Working as part of the BioDiscovery team, you’ll also support the smooth delivery of education programs through session preparation, administration and stakeholder engagement.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Deliver engaging and interactive STEM and medical research education sessions to school groups, teachers and community audiences.
- Foster an inclusive and positive learning environment that encourages curiosity, participation and exploration.
- Prepare, set up and pack down education sessions, ensuring learning spaces are safe, organised and ready for delivery.
- Liaise with teachers and other stakeholders to tailor sessions to meet audience needs and learning outcomes.
- Complete day-to-day administrative tasks, including timesheets, roster availability and session records.
- Assist with maintaining education resources and reporting stock requirements.
- Represent the Perkins professionally, creating positive experiences that inspire participants to engage with science and medical research.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:
- Demonstrated experience delivering engaging presentations or facilitating learning experiences for a variety of audiences.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and adapt your approach to suit different age groups and learning styles.
- A genuine passion for science, STEM or medical research, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear, engaging and accessible way.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to remain calm, flexible and solution-focused in a fast-paced environment.
- A current Working with Children Check (or the ability to obtain one) and a satisfactory National Police Clearance.
