Professor Danny Green PhD, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, is Winthrop Professor in the School of Human Sciences (Sport and Exercise Science) at The University of Western Australia. He is a cardiovascular exercise physiologist specializing in chronic disease prevention. His research spans all ages, from preventing atherosclerosis in obese youth to optimizing exercise and medication for heart disease, stroke, diabetes and heart failure. His research teams in Australia and the UK have published over 400 peer reviewed papers including Lancet, Circulation, JACC, Physiological Reviews, funded by over 50 nationally competitive grants in both countries. He is the Foundation Director of the Healthspan Institute at UWA, a distinctive pan-University collaboration undertaking research, teaching, practitioner training and researcher training to provide services to the community which enhance their physical or mental health or wellbeing, with a goal of promoting a longer span of healthy life. His research teams develop early disease detection and personalized prevention strategies through transdisciplinary collaborations spanning science, engineering, and medicine. Through advocacy, policy and political engagement, he pioneered Clinical Exercise Physiology in Australia and the UK, which resulted in the recognition of new allied health professions, acceptance in Medicare and the NHS, government rebates for service, establishment of peak accreditation bodies, and development of University sector-wide University accredited curricula.
Professor Bu Yeap (MBBS, FRACP, PhD) is a Professor in the Medical School, University of Western Australia, and a consultant endocrinologist in the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Fiona Stanley Hospital, Perth, Western Australia. He has longstanding interests in the area of androgens and health during male ageing, and the prevention and treatment of cardiometabolic diseases. He leads the Androgens In Men Study, an international collaboration of cohort studies examining testosterone and men’s health outcomes, and has conducted investigator-initiated clinical trials to prevent type 2 diabetes mellitus and improve fitness and body composition in men. He currently co-leads with Prof Danny Green the Tirzepatide and Resistance Exercise (T-REx) study, an investigator-initiated randomised clinical trial of resistance exercise on a background of tirzepatide treatment for obesity. Bu was President of the Endocrine Society of Australia in 2020-22. He was the South Metro Health Service Researcher of the Year in 2021, and was Claude D. Pepper Visiting Professor, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 2023. He has >300 publications including >250 original research articles, with >10,000 citations (Scopus).
