Dr Aaron Beasely
Melanoma Discovery
Aaron Beasley is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Melanoma Research Group at Edith Cowan University (ECU), working with Professor Elin Gray since 2022. He also leads the Cancer Genomics group within the Centre for Precision Health. His research focuses on liquid biopsy and next-generation sequencing approaches for cancer, with particular expertise in cell-free and circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) analysis, as well as single-cell genomics.
Aaron received his PhD in Cancer and Molecular Biology from ECU in 2021. Following his PhD, he continued at ECU as a postdoctoral researcher, building a strong early-career track record in translational cancer genomics.
Aaron has authored 26 peer-reviewed publications and one book chapter, including work published in high-impact journals such as Nature Communications. He has contributed to securing over $5.5 million in research funding, including support as Chief Investigator A, co-Investigator, and Associate Investigator across multiple projects.
His current research focuses on advancing cell-free DNA technologies and their application in precision oncology. He is particularly interested in improving the sensitivity and clinical utility of liquid biopsy approaches for cancer detection and monitoring. To achieve this, he employs a range of sequencing-based techniques, including:
- Advanced cfDNA analysis: developing and applying methods such as fragmentomics, tumour mutational burden assessment, and ultra-sensitive mutation and methylation detection.
- Immune profiling: directing sequencing-based projects focused on T-cell receptor and human leukocyte antigen profiling to better understand tumour–immune interactions.
- Translational genomics: integrating multi-omic data to support biomarker discovery and precision medicine across cancer types.
This work contributes to large-scale national and international collaborations, including multi-centre programs funded by the Medical Research Future Fund and the US Department of Defence. His research aims to accelerate the development of clinically actionable biomarkers and improve outcomes through precision oncology.
