West Australians give record amount in Australia’s biggest charity ride.
This morning it was announced a record $10,104,999 has been raised for WA cancer research by the nation’s biggest charity bike ride, the MACA Cancer 200 Ride for Research.
The funds raised will go to Perth’s Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research to support medical research into the hardest to treat cancers.
Close to 2000 riders set off from Optus Stadium at 7am today on a 200km two-day ride to Mandurah and back over the weekend.
CEO of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, Professor Peter Leedman AO said vital new cancer research is supported by the funds from the Ride.
“As CEO of the Perkins, I’ve witnessed firsthand the generosity, loyalty and kindness of the people of WA.
“The MACA Cancer 200 is the most successful charity bike ride in Australia raising over $74 million for research.
“Each year, corporate WA unites with the big-hearted WA community to ride with one purpose – to make cancer non-lethal and keep our families together for longer.”
