West Australians give generously for the MACA Cancer 200 Ride for the Perkins.

More than 1500 Riders and their supporters have raised $8,124,884 for vital WA cancer research as part of the nation’s highest fund-raising charity cycling event which is in its 14th year.

The funds raised will go to Perth’s Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research to support research into the hardest to treat cancers.

This brings the total raised over the life of the event to more than $82 million.

The Riders set off from McCallum Park in South Perth at 7am today on a 200km two-day ride to Mandurah, returning to Optus Stadium tomorrow, with the first riders expected to cross the finish line from 11am.

Professor Peter Leedman AO, CEO of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, said vital new cancer research is supported by the funds raised by Riders and their friends, families and colleagues.

“As CEO of the Perkins, I’ve witnessed firsthand the generosity, loyalty and kindness of the people of WA.

“The MACA Cancer 200 Ride for the Perkins sees riders display an extraordinary show of giving and determination with funds being put to work powering the next cancer breakthrough here in WA.

“Every discovery begins with a bold idea, but research needs resources, technology and time, and the funds raised support WA’s brightest scientists in the pursuit of tomorrow’s lifesaving treatments.

“Each year, corporate WA unites with the big-hearted WA community to ride with one purpose: To make cancer non-lethal to keep our families together for longer.”

Together, we can help make cancer history.
