Profile

Rebecca Ostergaard is an accomplished digital and technology executive with over 25 years of experience spanning government, research, education and industry. Trained as a software engineer and currently serving as Chief Digital Officer at CSIRO, she brings a distinctive combination of deep technical expertise, strategic insight, commercial acumen and collaborative leadership. Her work is focused on leveraging data and digital technologies to drive innovation and impact at scale.


Rebecca has recently joined the Board of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, harnessing her extensive experience to guide digital innovation at one of Western Australia’s leading medical research centres. She is also a Board Member of the Pawsey Supercomputer Research Centre, a Tier-1 high-performance computing facility supporting national scientific research, and previously served on the board of Community Vision Australia, where she helped navigate significant regulatory changes in the disability and aged care sectors.


Rebecca is widely recognised for her ability to lead enterprise-wide digital transformation, deliver measurable outcomes and align complex organisations around strategic priorities. She has led the development of major digital strategies for CSIRO, the WA Office of Digital Government and Curtin University. Her leadership style is inclusive and pragmatic, grounded in building trust, fostering high-performing cultures and delivering long-term value.


Rebecca holds an MBA from Curtin University and has completed executive education at Wharton Business School and Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. She is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. These qualifications complement her hands-on experience, equipping her with the strategic, governance and financial skills required to contribute effectively at the board level.
