Darcy Pirotta
Profile
Darcy is a PhD student in the Disease Models and Therapies team within the Preventative Genetics group. He has a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from The University of Western Australia (UWA) in pathology, microbiology, and immunology. Darcy completed honours in medical research in 2023, where he worked on developing a child-specific pre-clinical model of neuroblastoma.
Darcy’s PhD will focus on ACTA1-related myopathies which are a group of severe genetic muscle disorders affecting children, for which there are no curative treatments. His research aims to develop patient-centric stem cell-based models to guide new therapeutic approaches in the future.
