Anna Mills is a Senior Research Assistant in the Melanoma Discovery team at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. She brings more than five years of biotechnology industry experience across preclinical development, laboratory operations, project coordination and multidisciplinary scientific collaboration.

Her academic training includes First Class Honours in Medical Science from The University of Western Australia (UWA), where her honours project focused on the construction of a recombinant cytomegalovirus for the identification of viral latency. She also holds Bachelor degrees in Science and Commerce from UWA, giving her a combined foundation in biomedical science, data analysis, finance and management.

Anna’s current work focuses on biobank governance and sample management, laboratory management and process standardisation, and supporting translational research in liquid biopsy. To support this work, she applies a range of skills and techniques, including:

• Molecular biology, including the use of ddPCR to determine ctDNA levels in patient plasma
• SOP development, including writing, reviewing and maintaining procedures to support consistent laboratory practice
• Quality management, including reviewing processes, identifying areas for improvement and supporting compliance with laboratory standards.
