Brightwater Care Group Ltd immediate past CEO Jennifer Lawrence and long term BGC (Australia) Pty Ltd General Counsel, Belinda Murray have joined the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research Board commencing in June 2022.

Both Non-Executive Directors have extensive experience in senior executive roles.

Ms Lawrence recently completed six years as Brightwater CEO and has more than 40 years’ experience in the health and human services sector.

Ms Murray held various Board roles at BGC for 12 years as well as being General Counsel and Company Secretary.  She has broad experience in a variety of sectors including resources, manufacturing, civil and commercial construction, transport, development and property.

Ms Murray is a Non-Executive Director of Parkerville Children and Youth Care (Inc) and is also an Advisory Board Member of the Curtin University Law School.

The Perkins is dedicated to pioneering WA medical research to improve health outcomes globally. Focused on cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes and rare genetic diseases, the Perkins also has strategic oversight of the development of WA’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre which received a $375m federal budget commitment in March of this year.

Outgoing directors, former Board Chair, Mr Laurence Iffla and Dr Stephen Davis have served on the Perkins Board for 17 and 10 years respectively.

Mr Iffla is a partner in the legal firm Iffla Wade, Chair of the Perron Group and is former Chair of not-for-profit body Future Living Trust Inc.

Dr Davis is a Radiologist and partner of the Perth Radiological Clinic.

Perkins Board Chair Mr John Barrington said during their tenure the Perkins had established two major research buildings on the QE11 and Fiona Stanley campuses, launched Linear Clinical Research, one of Australia’s leading facilities to trial first-in-human drugs and treatments and expanded its research areas in cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and genetic diseases.

“The Harry Perkins Institute has grown to become a significant contributor to Australian and global medical research and collaborates with leading institutes around the world.

“We thank Larry and Stephen for their many years of service at what was a critical time of growth for the Perkins. We are very fortunate to attract two new directors with a considerable depth of experience in the commercial sector, law, health, and human services. Ms Lawrence and Ms Murray will contribute greatly to the Perkins bold plans for the future and our commitment to better health outcomes,” he said.
