Mechanical Services Lead

The Perkins is seeking a technically strong and proactive Mechanical Services Lead to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of critical building mechanical and hydraulic systems across our world-class medical research facilities.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a facilities professional who enjoys a mix of hands-on technical work, preventative maintenance strategy and stakeholder collaboration.

About this role

Reporting to the Senior Manager Facilities, the Mechanical Services Lead is responsible for ensuring Perkins’ mechanical and hydraulic systems operate safely, reliably and efficiently across multiple sites.

You will drive preventative maintenance programs, support asset lifecycle planning, oversee contractor works and provide technical expertise that enables research and operational teams to function with minimal disruption.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee planned and reactive servicing of building mechanical and hydraulic systems
  • Develop and optimise preventative maintenance strategies
  • Conduct inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting and repairs
  • Liaise with contractors and service providers to ensure quality and compliance
  • Monitor plant performance and prepare technical reports and insights
  • Support capital planning through asset lifecycle and replacement recommendations
  • Ensure compliance with WHS, NCC and relevant standards
  • Provide technical input into Facilities Management procedures and SOPs
  • Support procurement, installation and commissioning of new equipment
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across sites

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • Relevant qualification and/or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance programs
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical and hydraulic systems
  • Working knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and energy systems
  • Understanding of AS/NZS, NCC and WHS compliance requirements
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capability
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Basic computer literacy and maintenance system experience
  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance
  • Experience in facilities management within a research or laboratory environment

Special requirements

  • Participation in an on-call roster
  • Occasional after-hours work
  • Ability to work across Nedlands and Murdoch sites
  • Physical capacity to perform operational requirements
