Laboratory Support Officer

The Perkins is seeking an enthusiastic Laboratory Support Officer to assist Perkins researchers by providing sterilised laboratory equipment and adequate stocks of lab supplies. This position is offered on a full time, permanent basis, located at our state-of the-art medical research facilities in Nedlands.

About this role

Reporting to the Laboratory Services Manager, the Laboratory Support Officer will undertake daily wash-up and sterilisation processes of lab glassware used for research purposes. The role will also monitor, maintain, and calibrate specialised equipment such as autoclave, freezers, liquid nitrogen tanks and dishwaters. Training will be provided and no prior experience with this equipment is required. The Laboratory Support Officer will also maintain adequate stock levels of basic laboratory supplies for researchers and manage the safe disposal of waste.

This role would suit someone with hands-on experience within a laboratory environment, which may have been gained during education or employment.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • Hands-on experience within a laboratory environment, a general knowledge of scientific terminology, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Ability to adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidelines and other protocols.
  • Ability to perform high quality of work with excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • A positive, customer-focused and continuous improvement approach to tasks and service delivery.
  • Sound attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and autonomously as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with others with good interpersonal skills.
  • Good computer skills with sound knowledge of Office 365.
  • Ability to work within a team environment that is flexible, adaptive and collaborative in achieving goals and responding to changes, including being willing to work across roles and learn new skills if required.
  • Experience utilising sterilisation equipment such as an autoclave (for waste or sterilisation purposes) or Liquid Nitrogen would be desirable but is not essential as training will be provided.
  • Satisfactory National Police Certificate.
