Weekdays during school term | 9:30 am – 2:30 pm
Expand your biomedical science laboratory skills through a aseptic technique challenge.
Designed for MSL30122 Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques
$50 per student (minimum 20 students)
Maximum 32 students
Please note: This activity is designed to support students enrolled in Certificate IV: Laboratory Techniques to explore a research work environment.
This activity is not an accredited Certificate III course.
Use aseptic techniques to isolate plasma from blood, and prepare pure culture from contaminated sample.
Students will practice fundamental techniques, such as aseptic technique to perform a range of sensitive challenges. First students will compete to create the purest blood plasma from blood fractionation. Then, students will be provided a biological sample that has noticeable contaminants, where students will need to use aseptic techniques to identify the non-contaminant, and create pure culture of their intended microorganism.
