Former Chair, The Honourable Wayne Martin AC QC steps down as Chair after three years
Mr John Barrington AM is co-founder and managing director of artificial intelligence company Artrya Ltd, which is developing AI solutions to improve the diagnosis of coronary heart disease.
Artrya was established with Harry Perkins Institute Professor Girish Dwivedi, the inaugural Wesfarmers Chair in Cardiology at the University of Western Australia.
“After nearly three years on the Perkins Board, I am excited to step into the Chair role and to continue contributing to this remarkable medical research institute,” Mr Barrington said.
Mr Barrington has founded several technology innovation companies and advised boards and CEOs of some of Australia’s leading organisations on growth strategies.
With a strong background in the information technology sector, he founded big data firm Nerve Systems. He is also a former Chair of Anglicare and the Perth International Arts Festival.
Mr Wayne Martin AC QC was the former Chief Justice of Western Australia. He currently serves as Chair of the WA Football Commission.
While Chair of the Perkins, Mr Martin oversaw a period of significant growth. The research institute underwent a major scientific restructure, developed strategies to enhance support for early-to-mid-career researchers and recruited several world class senior and junior scientists, fostered the development of major research collaboratives such as the Liver Cancer Collaborative, supported the development of several spin-out companies and the continued growth of Linear Clinical Research which is wholly owned by the Perkins.
