Crime Scene

Weekdays during school term | 9:30 am – 2:30 pm

Expand your biomedical science laboratory skills through a aseptic technique challenge.

Designed for MSL40122 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques

$50 per student (minimum 20 students)
Maximum 32 students

Please note: This activity is designed to support students enrolled in Certificate IV: Laboratory Techniques to explore a research work environment.

This activity is not an accredited Certificate IV course.

Crime Scene

Use aseptic techniques to collect DNA samples from a Crime Scene and suspects, and use Laboratory Skills to build a case against the main suspect.

Students will learn about the sources of DNA in the environment, and how Polymerase Chain Reaction can be used to investigate DNA in great detail. In the laboratory, students will extract DNA from their samples, use Polymerase Chain Reaction to experiment with their DNA, and determine which suspect the crime scene DNA belongs to. Throughout the session, aseptic and professional practice is emphasised to ensure accuracy and precision of results when building a forensic case.
