The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is delighted to welcome Dr Moira Clay as Deputy Director. Moira will commence in this new role on 4 February 2025.

Moira will support Perkins Chief Executive Officer, Professor Peter Leedman AO in operational research matters, and steward the research strategy of the organisation, positioning the Perkins at the forefront of medical research innovation and societal impact.

Chief Executive Officer, Professor Peter Leedman AO is looking forward to Moira joining the organisation.

“She is a transformational leader, a highly experienced facilitator and will bring a high level of professionalism and integrity to the team. She is respected for her strategic thinking, exceptional communication, and her ability to build collaborative stakeholder relationships,” he says.

Moira has developed an enduring and substantive network across the Australian health and medical research sector. For the past 11 years, she has worked with over 60 organisations across Australia (including the Perkins) as a research strategy and health leadership consultant, driving projects with medical research institutes, hospitals, funding bodies, industry bodies and universities to achieve ambitious outcomes that benefit the community.

Moira has extensive senior executive, governance and board experience in medical research institutes and industry bodies around Australia, having led significant public, political and scientific advocacy initiatives.

In 2018, she was nominated as a Fellow of ARMS, acknowledging her enduring and substantial contributions to research management.

In September 2022, Moira was honoured for her distinguished service to research management by ARMS and awarded the Janet Dibb-Leigh Award recognising those who make outstanding contributions to the research management sector throughout Australasia and Singapore.
