Student Experience & Support Officer

Are you passionate about supporting the next generation of medical researchers? Does the thought of making a positive impact excite you? Do you love coaching, sharing knowledge, and developing systems and processes for success? This could be the role for you!

The Perkins is seeking a proactive and passionate individual to support the experience of students completing a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at our Institute. This is a new and exciting position, offered on a permanent part-time basis for 37.5 hours per fortnight (0.5 FTE), located at our state-of the-art medical research facilities in Nedlands.

About this role

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Student Experience & Support Officer acts as a bridge between HDR students, universities, the Perkins and student supervisors. As the key contact and support advocate for students, this role is responsible for enhancing the experience and wellbeing of students throughout the student lifecycle.

This role will oversee the student onboarding and off-boarding processes, oversee the progress of HDR students to ensure they are on track for successful completion, liaise with universities to understand, communicate, and translate their expectations, processes and opportunities, and assist in resolving student concerns.

The Student Experience & Support Officer will also be critical in developing and implementing the Perkins’ Education Committee to support the professional development of students and EMCRs (early-mid career researchers).

This role would suit a natural collaborator and change agent who is highly organised and motivated by continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • An understanding of academia and a strong knowledge of the requirements and pressures for students to undertake higher degrees by research.
  • A genuine interest in student development, wellbeing, and psychosocial safety.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Skills and experience in process mapping, systems development, and in creating guidelines, workflows, and policies.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently and under broad direction as part of a team.
  • A customer-centric approach.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through other education, training, and/or experience. If you have been through the HDR process yourself and have a PhD or Masters this is an added bonus!

If this sounds like the right fit, we can offer you:

  • Flexible working options
  • A supportive and passionate team
  • The opportunity to make a positive impact in a community-focused organisation with global reach
  • The ability to salary package up to $18,550 annually, meaning you can legitimately pay less tax and increase your tax-home pay
  • Generous leave benefits, including:
    • 3 days paid extra leave at the end of the year
    • Up to 16 weeks paid parental leave
    • 2 days of paid cultural and community engagement leave

Are you ready to make a difference?
